The Tech Nerd Camp was a great experience for me. I love technology, and am pretty comfortable with it in general. I had a classroom set of Chromebooks last year in my class, and love Google. That doesn't mean I know everything, which sometimes I feel that is how I come across when it comes to technology. This class gave me an opportunity to play with new apps and extensions that I haven't actually used before. Screen casting is a great example. I have always wanted to try it, but never got a round to it. This class helped me feel more comfortable with the things I don't know, and feel like it won't overwhelm me to actually use it in my classroom this upcoming school year. I want to make some screen casts that help my third graders with logging into different things on the Chromebooks and navigating the Chromebook as well. I want to have a place where they can be stored on my website so students can access them when they need to.
The interactive blog was two-fold for me. I really like the usability of it for creating my own blog, but navigating to other tech nerd campers' blogs was a bit difficult. I did love that when I was able to add and follow other campers, I was able to learn from what they posted with each activity. I did feel that in the beginning, it was hard to comment on other people's work, since everyone was working at different speeds. I think that is what got me behind. I was waiting to be able to actually post on other blogs, and I shouldn't have let myself "wait" for them.
Thank you for taking the course and for posting your reflection. I am glad that you got to try a few new things and that you were able to learn from other nerds even though it was a bit difficult.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you had difficulty navigating others' blogs as well. I spent a lot of time trying different ways to get to other blogs, both through mine and the main camp blog. It seems obvious that you should be able to click on someone's icon and be taken to their blog to read and comment, but for some reason that's not the case, or at least not for me. Nice to know I'm not alone in that challenge. Yay for being done! :)
